The Global Health Security Conference 2026 has been recognised as a key moment for action in a new joint statement from the International Pandemic Preparedness Secretariat (IPPS), CEPI, FIND, DNDi and Unitaid.
The statement, Accelerating Action for Pandemic Preparedness in 2026, identifies major global health and political milestones throughout the year where Member States can advance practical commitments to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. GHS2026, held in Kuala Lumpur from 9–12 June, was included among these important opportunities to drive coordinated action.
The joint statement highlights the need to accelerate the discovery, development and equitable delivery of diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines within the first 100 days of a future outbreak. It calls for stronger global and regional coordination, sustainable research and manufacturing networks, improved emergency regulatory pathways, integrated financing across medical countermeasures, and greater access to life-saving tools during outbreaks.
An update released on 30 June also draws attention to the ongoing Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak, which demonstrates the continued unpredictability of infectious disease threats and the importance of maintaining preparedness across viral families, including those that are rare or historically neglected.
GHS2026 brought together leaders, researchers, policymakers, public health practitioners, industry and civil society from across the world to share evidence, experience and practical solutions for strengthening global health security. We are proud that the conference was recognised as part of this broader call to turn political momentum into sustained, coordinated and equitable action.
The Global Health Security Network welcomes the statement’s focus on strengthening preparedness systems, supporting regional and country ownership, and ensuring that innovations are accessible to the communities that need them most.
